I am a fourth-generation native Floridian admitted to practice
by the Florida Bar in 1971. My formal education includes a degree
in accounting from the University of South Carolina, as well as
a degree in law from the University of Miami School of Law.
Early in my career, after extensive law enforcement training,
I served as a Special Agent-Criminal Investigator with the
United States Treasury Department, Intelligence Division,
and then later as a Federal Prosecutor with the
Department of Justice in Miami, Florida. I have an extensive
background in criminal investigation and forensic accounting,
and I have practiced criminal defense continuously since 1974,
with past offices located in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West
Palm Beach. Currently I maintain three offices on the southwest
coast of Florida conveniently located in Naples, Fort Myers and the
Port Charlotte-Punta Gorda area.
In 1971 I was admitted to the Florida Bar, and in 1975 I was
admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
I am also admitted to practice in both the Southern and Middle
Districts of Florida in the United States District Court. My
Appellate Court admissions include the United States Fifth
Circuit, Eleventh Circuit, Third Circuit and Fourth Circuit.
I am also a member of the Bar in the states of Colorado, Wyoming
and Montana.
In my twenty-five plus years of private practice as a criminal
defense attorney in both state and federal courts, I have defended
criminal cases throughout the state of Florida, and have tried
criminal cases in the United States District Court in numerous
federal jurisdictions including New York, Ohio, Virginia, Utah,
California and South Carolina.
My prior training and experience as a criminal investigator and
Federal Prosecutor, coupled with my extensive trial experience
as a defense attorney, enable me to approach and analyze complex
factual scenarios in an analytical and thorough fashion.
In addition to complex criminal matters, I also have extensive
experience in representing ordinary citizens charged with DUI
and domestic violence.
